The Bureau of Customs (BOC) recently intercepted several shipments at the Port of Manila as part of its crackdown on agricultural smuggling, following President Marcos Jr.’s directive to protect national food security.
🧾 Highlights of the operation (May 2025):
✅ Two containers of sugar from Thailand worth approx. ₱9 million were seized due to lack of proper import clearance.
✅ Two abandoned containers labeled as “sweet mixed powder” are under further investigation.
✅ A 40-foot container misdeclared as fabric was found to hold illicit cigarettes valued at ₱81 million.
💡 Why this matters for the freight and logistics industry:
Such incidents can lead to stricter inspections, delays in cargo release, and increased scrutiny of legitimate shipments. As a freight and consolidation company, we emphasize the importance of accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and working with licensed brokers and trusted partners to avoid disruptions.
We stand with BOC in promoting safe, lawful, and efficient trade.
